Texas Instruments raises $6.6 million for United Way across the US

TI’s North Texas sites raise $5.3 million for United Way of Metropolitan Dallas

Feb 18, 2014

"All of the efforts for TI’s United Way campaign add up to a very real impact on local communities,” said Andy Smith, TI corporate philanthropy director and TI Foundation executive director

Texas Instruments (TI) Incorporated raised a total of $6.6 million for United Way campaigns across the country this year to help address critical issues involving education, income and health in communities where the company operates.

Carrying on a tradition of giving started by the company’s founders, more than 5,600 TI employees contributed $3.3 million, a $100,000 increase from last year. Employee contributions, when combined with those of retirees, corporate support and a $3.2 million grant from the Texas Instruments Foundation, totaled $6.6 million.

TI’s North Texas campaign raised more than $2.6 million in employee contributions, along with retiree gifts, TI corporate funds and a TI Foundation grant, and resulted in $5.3 million to United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD).

“All of the efforts for TI’s United Way campaign add up to a very real impact on local communities,” said Andy Smith, TI corporate philanthropy director.

TI’s campaign included fundraising at 19 U.S. sites this year and engaged more than 2,000 TI employee volunteers who gave a total of 3,257 hours. TI volunteers participated in numerous fundraising events, educational opportunities and 78 “Days of Impact” projects.

“We see the value in engaging TI employees in the community because the leadership and organizational skills they develop as volunteers benefit our company,” Smith said. “The relationships they build locally also help us retain employees. And most of all, our giving strengthens our communities and improves the quality of life where we live and work.”

“United Way is TI’s and the TI Foundation’s primary health and human services focus because it has such a wide-reaching and powerful impact while consistently bringing measurable results to people nationwide,” Smith said.

TI has been the largest aggregate donor to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD) since one of the company's founders helped start the local organization in 1961. Many TI sites, including Tucson, Ariz.; Stafford, Texas; Manchester, N.H.; Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, CA; and South Portland, Maine, ran strong campaigns in those communities.

This year, new United Way campaigns were launched at TI sites in Bethlehem, PA; Cary, NC; Grass Valley, CA; Phoenix, AZ; and Schaumberg, IL.  Other TI sites that had campaigns in 2013 and previous years included Austin, TX, Germantown, MD, San Diego, CA, Sherman, TX and Washington, DC.
