TI Introduces Low-Noise, High-Accuracy DAC for Industrial Process Control and Test Equipment

Device Provides Excellent DC Accuracy for Precision Applications

Dec 5, 2007

DALLAS (December 5, 2007) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced a 16-bit, single-channel, buffered voltage-output digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with excellent linearity (1 LSB max INL), low noise (24 nV/rtHz) and fast settling time (5.0 uS). Combined with low-power consumption (5mW), the DAC8881 is an attractive option for industrial process control, automatic test equipment, data acquisition systems and communications applications. (See www.ti.com/dac8881-pr.)

The DAC8881 operates from a single +2.7V to +5.5V power supply and provides a unipolar output. The output voltage is based on the reference voltage selected and ranges from 1.25V to 5.5V thereby allowing for use in many different applications. By using an external operational amplifier for offset, the device can also provide a bipolar output with two's complement coding.
The DAC8881 supports a flexible SPI serial interface capable of input data clock frequencies up to 50MHz with 1.8V/3V/5V compatible logic which enables communications with a wide range of DSPs, FPGAs and microprocessors. The device operates over an extended temperature range of -40C to 105C.

Availability and Packaging

The DAC8881 is available now in a very small QFN-24 (4 mm x 4 mm) package and is priced at $10.00 each in 100-piece quantities (suggested resale pricing). Evaluation modules (EVMs) will be available in 1Q 2008.

TI offers analog engineers a wide-ranging support infrastructure that includes training and seminars, design tools and utilities, technical documentation, evaluation modules, an online KnowledgeBase, a product information hotline and a comprehensive offering of samples that ship within 24 hours of request.
