TI Executives Tell COMPUTEX Taipei Audiences: "Change is in the Air"

TI Asia President Terry Cheng and VP Doug Rasor Call Consumer Demand for Personalization Both a Challenge and an Opportunity

Jun 7, 2006

TAIPEI, Taiwan (June 7, 2006) - Executives from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) [NYSE: TXN] today at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2006 highlighted key trends shaping the broadband and wireless industries, and identified the impact of those trends on service providers, manufacturers and consumers.
Speaking on "The Mobile Phone of the Future," Terry Cheng, president of TI Asia, described the mobile phone's transformation from a pure communications device to a mobile lifestyle tool. "This is communications at a whole new level. Multimedia is more than just an 'add-on' ingredient," Cheng said. "Life happens on the go, so it only makes sense that the mobile phone of the future should become a tool that enables us to have a totally mobile lifestyle. Change is in the air."
"In the not so distant future, the mobile phone will increasingly reflect the personality and habits of the person using it. It will be the primary tool to capture, play and share your life as it happens," Cheng added.
Doug Rasor, TI vice president of Worldwide Strategic Marketing, expanded on the theme of "personalization," saying consumers are beginning to demand secure access to their personal digital content. In his keynote address on "The Digital Lifestyle," Rasor told his audience that as digital lifestyles continue to evolve, so must the applications and services delivered by service providers, manufacturers and technology developers.
"Silicon providers will need to offer a deeper and broader portfolio of systems solutions to help operators increase revenue and reduce subscriber churn," said Rasor. "TI is committed to helping service providers and OEMs succeed by providing new levels of performance, functionality and integration."
