Industry Experts Recognize TI's Award-Winning MCU and Digital Signal Controller Portfolio

TMS320F280x controllers have been awarded Control Engineering’s prestigious 2005 Editors' Choice Award as well as being named analogZONE’s 2005 best Green Power Converter/Controller while MSP430F20xx MCUs were named as one of Electronic Products 2005 Products of the Year and recognized for technical innovation in EE Product News’ 2005 Product Review and Outlook Semiconductor Review. Recognized as one of the most significant controller innovations in 2005, Control Engineering editors evaluated TMS320F2801, F2806 and F2808 digital signal controllers against hundreds of nominees based on service to the industry, technological advancement and market impact. The editors at analogZONE also recognized F280x controllers as in their 2005 Product of the Year Awards in the Best Green Power Converter/Controller category, describing the devices “a superb combination of performance and functionality.” Based on TI’s digital signal processing (DSP) technology, TMS320F280x controllers feature a highly integrated peripheral mix that includes a patent pending pulse width modulator (PWM) with 64 times higher resolution than the nearest competitor for faster control loops, quicker system response and more accurate control systems. Electronic Products named MSP430F20xx MCUs as a winner in the microprocessor category in the publication’s 2005 Product of the Year Awards. Editors chose the MSP430F20xx based on the product’s significant advances in technology and its applications, a decided innovation in design and a substantial gain in the price-performance ratio. These devices were also recognized in EE Product News’ 2005 Product Review and Outlook Semiconductor Review as one of the best and most technically innovative products introduced in the microprocessor and related chips/SoCs category. New MSP430F20xx MCUs are TI’s first devices based on the recently announced MSP430F2xx architecture, a winner in the Integrated Circuits category of ECN’s 2005 Technology Awards.

MSP430F20xx MCUs answer the low power market demands that have arisen as portable consumer and industrial applications continue to become more sophisticated and feature power requirements that outpace by far progress made in battery capacity technology. With a cool active current of 200 µA / MIPS and standby mode and self wake-up well under 1 micro-amp (uA), new low pin count MSP430F20xx devices are the world’s lowest power MCUs, providing 16MIPS of 16-bit performance to advance the industry's portable power management capabilities for better battery utilization and longer standby. The devices’ 14-pin, 4x4mm footprint and low standby current provide benefits in space constrained applications such as fire and motion detectors for which OEMs may choose to reduce cost and liability increased uptime with factory-installed, sealed batteries that last over ten years. MSP430F20xx MCUs enable extended battery-power operation that was not possible before in a variety of intelligent sensing applications including motion, break and fire detectors, thermostats and RF asset tracking, among others.
