Texas Instruments, Newark InOne and Farnell InOne Present Analog eLab Webcast

Session to Highlight Elements of the Analog Signal Chain

DALLAS (October 3, 2005) – Analog design engineers are invited to register at www.ti.com/analogelab for a live Analog eLab Webcast entitled “Elements of the Analog Signal Chain.” Presented by Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) and Newark InOne and Farnell InOne, subsidiaries of global distributor Premier Farnell plc, the Webcast will air at 11:00 a.m. CDT (18.00 hrs CET) on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. TI analog expert Bill Klein, P.E. and eLab guests, Lijoy Philipose of TI and Gavin Kirk of Newark InOne, will provide designers with an online discussion of the analog signal chain and a lab demonstration of some of the devices used in signal processing functions.

The hour-long session will feature a discussion on connecting analog sensors to data converters. Seldom do sensors have output signals that can be directly connected to the data converter in the system. The panel will discuss requirements for amplifying, filtering and shift offset as well as other processing functions. They will talk about the unique strengths and applications of various families of data converters and the special consideration required in input signal conditioning for analog signal processing functions. Gaining an understanding of these abilities and requirements will help the design engineer properly condition the signal and produce the optimum system.

During the lab segment, Klein and Philipose will demonstrate these principles using evaluation modules to build up the signal chain. The process will show an analog signal through an amplifier, data converter and to a DSP. The complete analog signal chain will be displayed on the PC screen and the processing function will be explained.

Analog eLab Design Engineers

Bill Klein, P.E. is the host for the TI Analog eLab Webcast. Klein is a senior applications engineer with the high performance linear division of TI. He joined TI through its acquisition of Burr-Brown in August 2000. Author of over 50 magazine articles, application notes and conference papers, Klein also has a monthly column, “A Call I Took Last Week” on Planet Analog. His experience as an analog circuit designer covers 30 years in fields ranging from mineral exploration to medical nuclear imaging.

Lijoy Philipose is an applications engineer for the data acquisition products group at TI in Dallas who supports the high resolution (>16 bit) and high speed (>1MSPS) SAR A/D converters. He also enjoys working with digital signal processing and mixed-signal circuit design. Philipose holds a BSEE from The University of Illinois and joined TI following graduation in 1999.

Gavin Kirk is a senior product manager for the semiconductor IC portfolio at the Newark InOne headquarters in Chicago. During the past five years, his work has included product selection, product marketing and supplier relations. Previously, Kirk was an electronic design engineer in the portable instrumentation industry, a field applications engineer and a development manager of a global supplier. Kirk holds a BEng in electronics and math from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
