Chipcon and Figure 8 Wireless Announce Certified ZigBee™ Platform

Completion of Conformance Test Gives Chipcon and its Subsidiary, Figure 8 Wireless, a Complete Certified Hardware and Software ZigBee Platform

Apr 11, 2005

OSLO, Norway and SAN DIEGO, California (April 11, 2005) -- Chipcon AS, the leading provider of low power, low data rate RF ICs and its subsidiary Figure 8 Wireless, the leading provider of ZigBee software and firmware announced today that ZigBee version 1.0 certification has been granted to the platform based on Chipcon's CC2420 RF Transceiver and Figure 8 Wireless' Z-Stack.
The certification means that OEMs developing on this platform are developing products that are certifiable by the ZigBee Alliance and can carry a ZigBee certified logo after completing limited testing of their own. Chipcon is a ZigBee Alliance Promoter along with Honeywell, Freescale Semiconductor, Motorola, Samsung, Philips, Mitsubishi and Ember.
"Certification is something we have worked towards for two long years," commented Geir Forre, President and CEO of Chipcon AS. "Product companies can use the Chipcon hardware and Figure 8 software to bring end products to market quickly knowing we are interoperable and certified."
Figure 8's Z-Stack is bundled with Chipcon's hardware development kits. Z-Stack is backed up by a complete package of products for the developer including Z-Tool, an embedded programming environment available directly from Figure 8, developer's training and support.
Bob Heile, Chairman of the ZigBee Alliance added, "Chipcon and Figure 8 Wireless have both been instrumental in getting us to this point. Certification of Z-Stack on the first pass is testament to the Company's expertise in wireless networking and ZigBee in particular."
Glen Allmendinger, President of Harbor Research stated, "This is a culmination of a process we have been following closely. Standards based wireless device networking has finally arrived, with Chipcon and Figure 8 Wireless in a clear position to dominate this new and emerging market."
