Siemens Chooses TI's New 1 GHz Wireless Infrastructure DSP for Mobile Media Gateways

Siemens @vantage CMG-3500 Realizes 4x Increase in Channel Density, Small Footprint and Reduces Power Consumption

Feb 11, 2005

CANNES (February 11, 2005) -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced that the Siemens Communications Group has chosen TI's newest 1 GHz DSP for use in its mobile media gateway Siemens @vantage CMG-3500. Leveraging the high performance and low power of TI's TMS320TCI6482, Siemens' new media gateway realizes a 4x improvement in channel density, delivering at least 1000 voice channels per card. Targeting worldwide deployments for 2G, 2.5G and 3G Mobile Core Networks, the Siemens @vantage CMG-3500 delivers one of the smallest footprints with highest performance and full functionality.
The Siemens @vantage CMG-3500 offers an unmatched future proof, fully standardized, Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) blade technology product, covering all types of backbones such as IP, ATM and TDM.
Leveraging the compatibility of the TCI6482 with previous generations of C64xTM programmable DSPs, Siemens will be the first customer using the new infrastructure-optimized DSP to ship in volume. In addition to high performance and low power, the device offers an impressive peripheral set which includes an integrated gigabit Ethernet MAC and a Serial RapidIOTM interface.
"Siemens chose TI due to the high performance and full programmability of its new 1 GHz DSPs" said Peter Dependahl, Vice President of Siemens Communications Mobile Networks MediaGateway Project. "We have achieved leading-edge results with this product, largely due to the TCI6482, and believe our carrier customers will benefit as well."
"We are very excited that Siemens has adopted our newest 1 GHz DSP," said Brian Glinsman, general manager of TI's worldwide wireless infrastructure group. "We have a strong history with Siemens, and we are pleased to continue to add value to their state-of-the-art products."
