Texas Instruments to Showcase Emerging DSP Technology and Applications at Embedded Systems Conference -- Boston

WHAT:    Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN), together with members of TI’s third party network, will feature a variety of new and emerging DSP products and applications during the Embedded Systems Conference – Boston. TI will host a third party pavilion on the conference floor, showcasing a variety of demonstrations in TI silicon and third party software. In addition, TI experts will lead several embedded systems-related presentations.



Softier, a leading provider of real-time DSP software and Linux solutions, will demonstrate a reference design and sample application of a networked media player implemented on a single DSP running both Linux OS and media processing algorithms. Among the features demonstrated, Softier will profile an interactive A/V streaming application that simulates typical IP Set Top Box (IP-STB) and Home Media Distribution (HMD) functionality, and will showcase D1 resolution playback of all major A/V standards including MPEG-2, H.264, Windows Media 9, MP3 and AAC.



ATEME, one of the world’s leading providers of hardware and software solutions for video signal processing, will demonstrate Windows Media 9 video decoding, encoding and streaming content on its DMEK642 board, which is powered by TI’s TMS320DM642™ DSP-based digital media processor. Also highlighted will be H.264 video decoding on ATEME’s dual-core (DSP-CPU) Thunder Multimedia Entertainment platform.


Adaptive Digital Technologies

Adaptive Digital, an innovator in high quality voice compression and telephony software for DSP based systems, will offer continuous demonstrations of two proprietary products: DSP Resource Wizard™, which provides on-the-fly channel density calculations of DSP software applications on TI’s TMS320C5000™ and TMS320C6000™ DSPs, and Listen2™, a comparative listening device that allows developers to analyze the voice quality of Adaptive’s extensive line of telecom algorithms. In addition, Adaptive Digital will partner with ATEME to present a Video Security over IP (VSIP) demonstration that will use ATEME’s DMEK642 board to highlight hardware and software reference designs for video streaming over IP networks.


Visual Solutions

Visual Solutions, a pioneer in the development of Windows-based software for embedded systems design, will showcase VisSim, an award-winning program for modeling and simulating complex nonlinear dynamic systems. Using the VisSim/Embedded Controls Developer™, Visual Solutions will demonstrate automatic code generation of production-quality, scaled fixed-point C code for applications running on TI’s TMS320C2000™ platform of control-optimized digital signal controllers.


Accelerated Technology

Accelerated Technology, the embedded systems division of Mentor Graphics Corporation – a world leader in electronic hardware and software design solutions – will demonstrate components of the Nucleus Real-Time Operating System on TI’s OMAP1610 processor. The OMAP1610 is optimized for high performance multimedia applications and supports all cellular standards.


TI eXpressDSP™ Software and Development Tools

TI will demonstrate the newest features of the Code Composer Studio™ Integrated Development Environment (IDE), offering the latest advances in software and development tools. Conference attendees will learn how programmers can reduce system cost, speed development time and unleash the full potential of high performance embedded systems applications.


“Hardware/Software Optimization Techniques on High Performance DSPs,” by Rob Oshana, Wednesday, September 15, 10:30 a.m.-Noon, Class #316. Attendees will learn software/hardware optimization techniques that help accelerate development of high-performance DSP designs.

“Fundamentals of High Speed Board Design,” by Mike Shust, Thursday, September 16, 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m., Class #425. Attendees will learn about the technical challenges and opportunities inherent to high speed board design, and how to ensure optimal performance while avoiding common design pitfalls.

“Security Challenges and Enhancement Methods for VoIP Networks,” by Sophia Scoggins and Ron Nag, Wednesday, September 15, 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., Class #SEC-700. This session is offered through the Embedded Security Seminar, a co-located event with the Embedded Systems Conference. Attendees will learn about the various security vulnerabilities that exist, how security is affected specifically in a VoIP environment and how to design a system that incorporates the key elements of VoIP security.
