More than 3,000 Engineers Attended TI MSP430 Technical Training Events in 2003

European Advanced Technical Conference Takes Place December 2-4

DALLAS (Nov. 21, 2003) - Designers from Silicon Valley to Hong Kong attended the second annual MSP430 Advanced Technical Conference (ATC) hosted by Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) November 11-13 in Fort Worth, Texas. Attendance surpassed 2002 and concluded a successful series of customer training events. Tailored to designers with different levels of microcontroller unit (MCU) design experience, these training events drew more than 3,000 customers worldwide in 2003.
TI will host an ATC in Europe December 2-4 at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Miesbach (near Munich), Germany. Horst Diewald, chief architect of the MSP430 and a distinguished member of the TI technical staff, and Lutz Bierl, a senior member of the TI technical staff and an architect of the MSP430 central processor unit, will deliver the keynote address. Giving designers a deep dive into the newest material on the ultra-low power microcontroller unit (MCU) line, the U.S. ATC provided hands-on workshops on MSP430 architecture, peripherals, coding/design techniques and applications. Ray Simar, TI fellow and chief architect of the world's most powerful generation of digital signal processors, delivered the keynote address, discussing how the low power microprocessor is fueling a revolution in the electronics industry. "The embedded world will, in all likelihood, surpass the PC market in size and importance," said Simar. "As the MSP430 product line drives significant reductions in power consumption and its family members are carefully tuned for specific applications, it will set the standard for others."
The ATC concluded a series of worldwide customer events in 2003, developed to help designers of battery-powered measurement applications take full advantage of the MSP430´s modern ultra-low power architecture and high performance analog peripherals. "4-30 Day," held simultaneously in 75 locations worldwide on April 30, drew more than 2,000 new users to a two-hour lunch and learn session. Attendees learned about the MSP430 architecture and saw the low-power capabilities first-hand in a demonstration that powered the device using only an apple. In August, 650 experienced MCU users attended half-day MSP430F169 seminars, conducted at 23 locations.
