Motorola Adds Texas Instruments OMAPTM Processor for Voice Over IP Wireless LAN Capabilities

Leading Industry Effort To Create Seamless Mobility Solutions That Will Integrate Cellular, Wireless LAN and IP Telephony

Schaumburg, IL and Dallas - June 17, 2003 - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced that Motorola will use TI´s 802.11 wireless networking and OMAPTM application processors to enable Motorola´s new Wi-Fi/cellular dual system phone. 
The TI processors, along with Motorola's i.250 Innovative Convergence platform, will play an integral part in the deployment of the new dual-system phones. Converging cellular, Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) and Internet Protocol (IP) Telephony networks, the dual system phones will be at the heart of a Seamless Mobility solution that will be standards based and support contiguous voice and data service to users across networks. The convergence of these technologies will enable businesses to gain new cost savings opportunities, user efficiencies, and enhanced communications capabilities.
Cost-savings can be achieved through reduced network management expenses, lower usage charges and device consolidation. User efficiencies result from increased accessibility to the business network and greater mobility through seamless wireless access to business networks, applications, and information within a work campus and at other equipped sites. These solutions will also provide enhanced communications capabilities, including on-demand conference calling and access to key business applications such as email, calendars and corporate directories.

TI´s WLAN and OMAP application processors will provide exceptional performance and low power technology for Motorola´s dual-system phones. Using TI´s ELPTM technology in the company´s 802.11a/b/g processor, Motorola can provide users with embedded 802.11 functionality without sacrificing battery-life. With TI´s OMAP application processors, Motorola´s dual-system phone is designed to support 2.5 and 3G software applications on a high-level operating system platform, as well as VoIP functionality thanks to dedicated digital signal processing capabilities.

The dual-system phone will be supported by Motorola's next generation i.250 Innovative Convergence platform that provides a comprehensive silicon-to-software solution for WLAN/GSM or WLAN/CDMA wireless handsets. This scalable, highly integrated platform combines an advanced chipset with an industry-leading development environment, field proven GPRS protocol software, type certification support, and best-in-class system cost to support a complete range of voice-centric, voice/data, and data-centric products. Product trials are expected to begin during the second half of 2003.
