TI-Based Voice Enabled Modem Becomes First to be Certified by Euro-DOCSIS

ARRIS' Certified Modem Makes Tiered Data and Voice Services Possible for European Market

Aug 29, 2002

DALLAS (August 29, 2002) -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) continues to demonstrate its technology leadership in Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSISTM) with the certification of ARRIS´ TouchstoneTM Telephony voice-enabled cable modem by the Euro-DOCSISTM Certification Board based on the tests performed by tComLabs, the Euro-DOCSIS Certification Lab. TI has built upon its industry-leading Telogy SoftwareTM products voice technology to enable cable operators to provide bundled services across all market segments. In addition to being the first supplier able to provide the technology for Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 certified data cable modems, TI is now the first and only silicon and software supplier able to provide manufacturers with a voice-enabled cable modem solution that is proven worthy of Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 certification. "ARRIS is very pleased to achieve another industry first by delivering the first Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 certified voice-enabled cable modem to help operators quickly deploy revenue generating services. The ARRIS Touchstone Telephony Modem (TTM) was also previously DOCSIS1.1 certified," said Bruce McClelland, vice president engineering for ARRIS Broadband. "These accomplishments reflect the powerful teamwork between TI and ARRIS and provide solutions that can be deployed anywhere in the world."
TI's Euro-DOCSIS solutions include highly optimized silicon and an open software architecture, which allows customers to personalize and customize their modems with value-added features. The high rate of success of TI's customers in DOCSIS and Euro-DOCSIS certification is a clear demonstration of TI's focus to deliver production-quality system solutions.
"We are pleased to have teamed with ARRIS to achieve another first in Euro-DOCSIS," said Brett Butler, general manager of TI's Broadband Cable Communications. "This certification once again demonstrates the strength of TI's technology and system expertise in the cable modem industry as well as our commitment to make our customers successful in the certification process."
TI is the first silicon and software provider to offer a complete, in-house facility to pre-test reference designs for customers, giving them increased confidence as they approach certification. The company's experience and robust testing methodologies continue to provide TI's customers with a rapid time-to-certification for new designs. In August, TI announced that it was first to achieve Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 certification, and in June, the company announced that it has maintained a certification pass rate of 100 percent for all the cable modem vendors who used TI silicon and software since the first certified DOCSIS 1.1 modem in September 2001.
