National Semiconductor receives "Quality Award 2001" from Siemens ICM

Dec 6, 2001

F?rstenfeldbruck, December 6, 2001 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) today announced that it has received the "Quality Award 2001" from the Siemens ICM (Information and Communication Mobile) division. With this award, Siemens ICM recognised National's outstanding service with regard to product quality, reliable cooperation and support.

Christoph Caselitz, President Cordless Products at Siemens ICM, awarded the prize to Donald Macleod, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at National Semiconductor, during a ceremony in Frankfurt/Germany, celebrating the "ICM Supplier Day 2001".

"This award is our recognition of the marvelous service that National Semiconductor provided to Siemens ICM throughout 2001", said Christoph Caselitz. "As a supplier of numerous products for our cordless range and in particular the important baseband processors for our high-end DECT handsets in the Gigaset series, National proved itself by providing the highest levels of product quality, worldwide service and support and excellent logistic services."

Recipients of an award of this kind must satisfy high standards, specified by Siemens' Corporate Procurement Office, and ranked by the company's individual production plants. In addition, Siemens evaluates its suppliers in terms of quality, logistics, marketing, technology and response speed.

National Semiconductor is one of Siemens ICM's most important suppliers of semiconductors for DECT handsets and also provides a broad range of analogue- and mixed-signal components such as operational amplifiers, voltage regulators, audio (Boomer?) amplifier ICs and customized solutions for use in GSM and GPRS mobile phones.

"This is a particularly satisfying moment for myself and for all of us here at National Semiconductor", said Donald Macleod. "Receiving the Quality Award validates National's corporate emphasis on world-class manufacturing and cycle-time reduction for new products. This award is based on National's consistent product quality in our baseband processors, and portfolio of analogue products including audio, power management and integrated solutions for wireless and information appliance applications."

Siemens' "ICM Supplier Day" was held this year under the motto "Leadership in TCO". National Semiconductor provides Siemens with continuous support in reducing the "Total Cost of Ownership". As a partner, the company not only sees itself as a supplier, but as an integral part of the whole development and manufacturing process, providing consistency, quality and reduced costs.
