National Semiconductor Announces Intent To Sell Singapore Assembly and Test Plant

Mar 10, 2005

March 10, 2005 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today announced that it is seeking a buyer for its assembly and test plant in Toa Payoh, Singapore. The facility employs approximately 1,000 people, including 320 professional staff and 680 technicians and operators.

"Although National's Singapore facility is a world-class operation with a highly skilled workforce, it is geared more towards complex, high-pin count (digital) products," said Brian L. Halla, National's chairman, president and CEO.  "We are seeking a buyer for the facility because National is moving to a product portfolio that doesn't require these high-pin count packages."

Current manufacturing activities at the Singapore plant will continue during the sale process.

National operates wafer fabrication plants in Texas, Maine and Scotland.  Its three test and assembly plants are based in Singapore, Melaka, Malaysia, and Suzhou, China.  The Suzhou plant, which opened last fall, is focused on supporting National's analog businesses.

National's third quarter FY2005 financial announcement and conference call are scheduled for 10 a.m. PST on March 10, 2005. At that time, the Company will discuss Q3 results and any forward-looking financial impact of this possible sale upon National's business.
