National Semiconductor Introduces Boomer Stereo Audio Power Amplifier For Flat-Panel Displays and Computer Sound Cards

May 18, 2005

May 18, 2005 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today introduced the Boomer® LM4952 dual audio power amplifier primarily designed for high-power and space-constrained applications in flat-panel monitors, flat-panel televisions and computer sound cards. Boomer audio power amplifiers provide high-quality output power with a minimal number of external components.

The LM4952 is a stereo audio power amplifier with DC volume control. Eliminating external feedback resistors, an internal, DC-controlled volume control allows easy and variable gain adjustment. The audio amplifier is capable of delivering a 3.1W per channel to a four-Ohm, single-ended load with less than 1 percent total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) when powered by a 12V DC power supply.

Requiring no bootstrap capacitors or snubber circuits, the LM4952 features a low-power- consumption active-low shutdown mode and an internal thermal shutdown protection mechanism along with short-circuit protection. Its advanced pop and click circuitry eliminates noises that would otherwise occur during turn-on and turn-off transitions.

Additional Features of the LM4952

  • Low quiescent current (18 mA typical)
  • Stereo 3.8W output of RL = 4
  • Power output (POUT) VDD = 12V, RL = 4, 10% THD+N 3.8W (typical)
  • Shutdown current of 55µA (typical)
