National Semiconductor Receives Stack International's Silver Quality Award

Company Earns Fourth Prestigious Quality Award in Seven Years

May 25, 2005

May 25, 2005 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: NSM) received the prestigious Silver quality award from Stack International, a widely recognized association of electronic equipment manufacturers that represents the world's largest group of users of electronic components.

This is the fourth time National has received a Stack award. The company received the association's Gold award in 2001 and 1998 and a Bronze award in 2000.

The Stack awards are presented each year to the top three semiconductor manufacturers for consistent achievement and overall performance in meeting the quality, delivery and service criteria of Stack members --which include leading companies in computer, telecommunications, aviation, space and contract manufacturing.

"Winning the Stack award for the fourth time in seven years is truly an honor and reflects the effectiveness of National's ongoing programs for continuous quality improvement," said Jim Gordon, National Semiconductor’s vice president of Worldwide Quality and Reliability.

Over the past four years, National has reduced its overall defect rate by 90 percent. In the company’s key strategic product lines, the defect rate is less than five parts per million.

Since 1998, National has received more than 50 awards from its worldwide customers, including several awards for zero-defect performance.

"Our people are dedicated to making National the pre-eminent supplier of semiconductor products of the highest quality and reliability," Gordon added. "These awards prove that the dedication of our employees to a quality culture is the differentiating factor in our success."

Current Stack International members are located throughout the U.S., Canada, Italy and the United Kingdom.
