National Semiconductor’s Arlington Facility Honored with Coveted OSHA Award Acknowledging Excellence in Worker Health

--Only 0.02 Percent of U.S. Corporations Earn “VPP Star” Distinction

Jun 3, 2005

June 3, 2005 - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has presented National Semiconductor’s manufacturing facility in Arlington, Texas with OSHA’s “Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Award” acknowledging the company’s achievements for exemplary occupational safety and health.  Only one out of 5,000 U.S. companies has earned this distinction.

OSHA determined National had earned the VPP Star after conducting a thorough audit of National’s site which included employee interviews, wall-to-wall inspections and a review of safety program documentation.  OSHA officials presented the VPP Star flag to National on June 1 to officially recognize the Arlington site’s worker-health efforts.

"Congratulations to the National Semiconductor Corporation employees for your hard work and dedication to the principles embodied in the VPP,” said Jonathan L. Snare, assistant secretary for Occupational Safety and Health at the U.S. Department of Labor in a commendation.  “I wish you continued success in your safety and health efforts."

“I am so proud of our Arlington employees.  Through their constant and continued efforts to achieve excellence in worker-health and safety, this site has received numerous awards and distinctions over the past several years.  OSHA's VPP Star is the latest and acknowledges a rare level of greatness,” said Brian Halla, chairman and CEO of National Semiconductor.  “I applaud the site's efforts and want to express my deepest appreciation for this marvelous achievement.”

The VPP Star Award is the latest worker-health and safety achievement for the company.  In March 2004, National’s manufacturing facility in Arlington reached a significant milestone --one million work hours without experiencing a lost workday injury.

National’s Arlington facility, located at 1111 West Bardin Road, manufactures analog integrated circuits for wireless handsets, laptop computers and displays.  The company currently employs about 800 people in Arlington.
