National Semiconductor Introduces 2:1 High-Speed Multiplexer for High-Fidelity Analog Applications

Jun 6, 2005

June 6, 2005 – National Semiconductor (NYSE:NSM) today introduced the LMH6570, a 2:1 high-speed, high-performance analog multiplexer (MUX) designed for professional-grade video and other high-fidelity, high-bandwidth analog applications.  Based on National’s VIP10 process technology, the LMH6570 is ideal for applications requiring very high speed and low distortion, such as video routers, multi-input video monitors, instrumentation and test equipment, multi-channel A/D drivers and picture-in-picture video switches.

Multimedia and high-definition television (HDTV) applications can benefit from the LMH6570’s 0.1 dB gain flatness of 150 MHz and its 2200 volts per microsecond (V/us) slew rate.  The LMH6570 is optimized for maximum speed and performance in a small-form-factor SOIC package.  It also provides a 400 MHz bandwidth at 2V peak-to-peak output signal levels.

The LMH6570 supports composite video applications with its 0.02 percent and 0.05 degree differential gain and phase errors for NTSC and PAL video signals, while driving a single, back-terminated 75 Ohm load.  An 80 mA linear output current is available for driving multiple video load applications.  The LMH6570’s gain is set by external feedback and gain-set resistors for maximum flexibility.

Additional Features of the LMH6570:

  • 500 MHz, 500 mVpp, -3dB bandwidth, Av=2
  • 2200 V/us slew rate
  • 8 ns channel switching time
  • 0.1 dB gain flatness to 150 MHz
  • 70 dB channel-to-channel isolation at 10 MHz
  • Wide supply voltage range: 6V (±3V) to 12V (±6V)
  • -68 db HD2 at 5 MHz
  • -84 dB HD3 at 5 MHz
  • Shutdown pin

About National’s Amplifier Portfolio
Specializing in high-performance amplifiers and comparators, National Semiconductor offers a complete portfolio of op amps ranging from building-block chips to application specific standard products (ASSPs), including precision, high-speed, low-power and low-voltage amplifiers. The company has a long history of innovation in amplifiers, including the first low-voltage op amp and the “amp-in-a-mic.”  National also leads the industry in packaging technology with its revolutionary Silicon Dust™ and micro SMD packaging technologies.  For more information on National’s amplifier products, visit http://amplifiers.national.com

VIP10 Process
National's LMH6570 is National’s newest amplifier created using the VIP10 process.  Developed in National's wafer fabrication site in Arlington, Texas, the VIP10 process is a high-speed, dielectrically isolated, complementary BiCMOS process that utilizes deep trench technology on a bonded wafer for complete dielectric isolation and optimal high-speed amplifier performance.  The VIP10 process technology allows National to design the most power-efficient, performance-oriented high-speed amplifiers on the market today.

Pricing and Availability
Available now in an 8-pin SOIC package, the LMH6570 is priced at $2.15 in 1,000-unit quantities.  Lead-free package options are also available.  More information on the LMH6570 is available at http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LMH6570.html
