National Semiconductor’s WEBENCH Active Filter Designer Tool Receives DesignVision Award from International Engineering Consortium

Feb 7, 2006

February 7, 2006 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today announced that the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has honored National’s WEBENCH® Active Filter Designer online tool with its prestigious DesignVision Award.

National won the award in the system-level design tools category, one of nine categories in the IEC’s annual awards program that recognizes the technologies, applications, products and services judged to be “the most unique and beneficial” to the electronics industry.

“The DesignVision Awards recognize innovative products and services that support the work of electronic design engineers, the core audience at DesignCon,” said Dr. Barry Sullivan, DesignCon 2006 Program Director. “The IEC is pleased to provide this recognition to companies whose products exemplify our standard of service to the industry."  The IEC selected National Semiconductor's Active Filter Designer tool from among dozens of entries.

"This award recognizes the collaborative efforts of National’s Web team and Amplifiers Group to make designers’ jobs easier through online tools”, said Phil Gibson, National’s vice president of technical sales tools.  "Using the WEBENCH Active Filter Designer, engineers can create highly complex filters quickly using National’s wide range of high-performance amplifiers. They can go from theory to an active filter evaluation board in minutes.”

“Designers may use the WEBENCH Active Filter Designer to develop more than 200,000 customized low-pass filters using any of 180 op amps, including our precision offerings,” said Erroll Dietz, vice president of National Semiconductor’s Amplifier product group.  “Advanced filter design with accurate responses has never been easier.”

This year's awards were judged by a panel of industry experts and presented during a special media reception at the DesignCon 2006 event in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 7, 2006.

About National’s WEBENCH Active Filter Designer Tool
The WEBENCH Active Filter Designer speeds the creation of sophisticated filters for data acquisition and signal conditioning applications. Designed by National employees from the ground up, the tool lets engineers design 200,000 advanced, highly customized filters for standard filter types up to ninth order in low-pass, high-pass and band-pass architectures. It provides a powerful component selection system to rapidly search among the company’s portfolio of nearly 200 operational amplifier products, each with hundreds of different electrical parameters, and immediately configure the necessary bill of materials for every design.  The Active Filter Designer and its simulators are available free of charge at http://webench.national.com

A Seamless Suite of Online Tools and Resources
National’s WEBENCH environment is useful for both the expert and the novice.  It eliminates the need for a design engineer to perform tedious hand calculations and includes extensive online tutorials in analog design. The tools offer instant access to the latest SPICE models, parametric data and package information, enabling designers to simultaneously compare the performance of multiple devices in multiple applications. Overnight delivery in the United States is available on all of National’s products with WEBENCH design tool capability.

The WEBENCH Active Filter Designer works seamlessly with National’s other WEBENCH tools for wireless, power, audio and amplifiers including http://Solutions.National.com and National’s Analog University® online distance learning facility.
