National Semiconductor’s Greenock, Scotland Facility Achieves Three Million Hours Without Lost-Time Injury

Oct 26, 2007

October 26, 2007 - National Semiconductor Corporation announced today that its manufacturing facility in Greenock, Scotland has reached three million working hours without having a reportable work-related injury.

This achievement is further evidence of National Semiconductor’s commitment to the health and safety of its employees.  It took approximately three years for the Greenock site, which employs 450, to achieve the safety milestone.

National has been widely recognized for its approach to health and safety.  Earlier this year, the company received two prestigious awards at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Scotland Occupational Health and Safety Awards. The company was awarded a commendation for health and safety in the Manufacturing Industry Sector as well as a commendation in the newly established International Dilmun Environmental Award.

“This is a tremendous achievement and one which all of our employees are extremely proud of.  Health and safety is the cornerstone of everything we do here at National Semiconductor, and I’m delighted that we’ve reached this particular milestone,” said Douglas Blackwood, health and safety advisor for National Semiconductor’s Greenock facility.  “Our aim now will be to build on this success.  With the support and commitment of our workforce, we will ensure that health and safety continues to be our number one priority.”

National’s manufacturing sites in Maine and Texas have also achieved safety milestones.  In March 2004, National’s facility in South Portland, Maine recorded one million hours without a lost-time injury.  In September 2007, National’s site in Arlington, Texas, achieved two million hours without a lost-time injury.  The Arlington site is also a recipient of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Award which acknowledges the company’s achievements for exemplary occupational safety and health.  Only one out of 5,000 U.S. companies has earned this distinction.
